The autumn months may bring cooler temperatures to many parts of the world, but in the Caribbean, an array of festivals and events provide enticing reasons to plan a trip to warmer climes.

Between September and January, the region’s offerings are decidedly diverse, ranging from culinary festivals and conservation programs to theatrical performances and seasonal holiday traditions. That variety allows travel advisors to better match clients with experiences that fit their interests.

The following events provide timely opportunities to add memorable new dimensions to a Caribbean getaway in the months ahead.

Belize’s Independence Day is Sept. 21, but the festivities extend throughout the month in the form of September Celebrations, with parades, live music, culinary events and official ceremonies among the activities. There’s even a Carnival Road March, which exudes Carnival-style excitement, with bands and costumed revelers making their way through the streets of Belize City.

Also on Belize’s calendar is the T.I.D.E. Fish Festival , which will take place Oct. 8-11 in Punta Gorda, a fishing town in southern Belize. The event leans into the region’s sea-based traditions, with a fishing tournament, cultural competitions, marine conservation education and seafood tastings. The Belize Tourism Board describes the festival as an especially family-friendly program, with activities that include coconut husking and cast net throwing.

Also in the water-based activity category is the Dive & Conservation Festival , which takes place in Grenada at the end of October. Attendees can participate in expert-led dives, underwater photography workshops and environmental projects that include coral restoration, marine debris cleanups and mangrove restoration.

Grenada is also launching a brand-new event this fall: the Grenada Flower & Garden Festival. Scheduled for Nov. 8-15, the event will feature growers and designers who will showcase a variety of gardens and floral installations. Visitors can also participate in guided tours, workshops and beautification projects.

Culinary Happenings

Foodies will find lots of reasons to visit the Caribbean this fall. The British Virgin Islands, for one, is hosting BVI Restaurant Week — part of the ongoing BVI Food Fete series. Slated for Oct. 20-24, the event is expected to include more than 37 restaurants serving curated menus, with lots of traditional island favorites as well as contemporary creations. Also on the calendar from Nov. 27-29 is the Anegada Lobster Festival, which will feature locally caught spiny lobster served in a variety of ways — including fritters, salads, pizza and more traditional entrees.

Touted as the birthplace of rum, the island of Barbados celebrates its liquid heritage Nov. 5-8 with the Barbados Food & Rum Festival, a lively event where chefs, mixologists and producers gather to lead a number of collaborations, tastings and cooking demonstrations. Hilton Barbados Resort offers a three-night Bajan Rum Experience package that includes breakfast, a VIP tasting at the hotel’s Careenage Rum Stop! bar and a guided distillery tour. November will likely be an especially festive month this year for Barbados, which will celebrate 60 years of independence on Nov. 30, while the Hilton property will celebrate its own 60th anniversary.

Fans of Jamaican cuisine may want to consider a visit to Negril, where The Cliff Hotel & Spa will host the first Jamaica Jerk Championship Dec. 4-7. A panel of judges that includes chefs with James Beard, Michelin and “Chopped” credentials will converge on this picturesque town to determine the island’s top jerk-chicken chef. Activities will also include tastings, demonstrations and drinks from a beverage program centered around rum and rose.

Performance and Holiday Traditions

Attending live theater in the Caribbean may be an uncommon experience for many travelers, but it’s an interesting option in Nevis, where Nevis Sun Tours is presenting monthly performances of the original theatrical production “The Trial of Hamilton & Nelson.” The live courtroom drama features two historical figures with personal connections to Nevis: Alexander Hamilton and Admiral Lord Horatio Nelson. Fall and early winter performances are scheduled at Malcolm Guishard Recreational Park for Sept. 26, Oct. 24, Nov. 21 and Dec. 18, although dates and locations are subject to change.

As the holiday season gears up, travelers can witness vibrant traditions in several destinations. St. Croix’s Crucian Coconut Festival from Dec. 5-6 will feature culinary competitions, artisans and cultural demonstrations. A few days later on Dec. 12, the St. Croix Christmas Boat Parade will light up the night in Christiansted Harbor, followed by the Crucian Christmas Festival from Dec. 26, 2026, through Jan. 2, 2027, which will host parades, food fairs, J’ouvert festivities, pageants and other nightly entertainment.

In the Bahamas, upcoming seasonal events include the Bahamas Culinary & Arts Festival, showcasing cuisine and creativity from Oct. 21-25 in Nassau; the Bahamas International Film Festival, which draws filmmakers and enthusiasts alike; and Junkanoo, a colorful, costumed celebration that takes place the day after Christmas and on New Year’s Day (as well as in the summer).

Those looking for an upscale, post-holiday getaway with sumptuous flavors may want to book at room at The Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman, which will kick off The Ritz-Carlton Cayman Cookout Jan. 14-17, 2027. Hosted by French chef Eric Ripert, the 18th annual festival will feature a legendary lineup of culinary figures, including Jose Andres, Daniel Boulud, Emeril Lagasse and Clare Smyth, with more than 40 experiences for attendees — among the newest is a pastry pop-up from pastry chef Eunji Lee. The hotel’s three-night Cayman Cookout package starts at $3,200 for two guests and includes some signature events, five culinary demonstrations, daily breakfast and airport transfers.
