The autumn months may bring cooler temperatures to many parts of the world, but in the Caribbean, an array of festivals and events provide enticing reasons to plan a trip to warmer climes.
Between September and January, the region’s offerings are decidedly diverse, ranging from culinary festivals and conservation programs to theatrical performances and seasonal holiday traditions. That variety allows travel advisors to better match clients with experiences that fit their interests.
The following events provide timely opportunities to add memorable new dimensions to a Caribbean getaway in the months ahead.
Heritage and Nature
Belize’s Independence Day is Sept. 21, but the festivities extend throughout the month in the form of September Celebrations, with parades, live music, culinary events and official ceremonies among the activities. There’s even a Carnival Road March, which exudes Carnival-style excitement, with bands and costumed revelers making their way through the streets of Belize City.
Also on Belize’s calendar is the T.I.D.E. Fish Festival , which will take place Oct. 8-11 in Punta Gorda, a fishing town in southern Belize. The event leans into the region’s sea-based traditions, with a fishing tournament, cultural competitions, marine conservation education and seafood tastings. The Belize Tourism Board describes the festival as an especially family-friendly program, with activities that include coconut husking and cast net throwing.

Hilton Barbados Resort offers a three-night Bajan Rum Experience package that includes breakfast, a VIP tasting at the hotel’s Careenage Rum Stop! bar and a guided distillery tour. November will likely be an especially festive month this year for Barbados, which will celebrate 60 years of independence on Nov. 30, while the Hilton property will celebrate its own 60th anniversary.
Fans of Jamaican cuisine may want to consider a visit to Negril, where The Cliff Hotel & Spa will host the first Jamaica Jerk Championship Dec. 4-7. Activities will also include tastings, demonstrations and drinks from a beverage program centered around rum and rose.

Fall and early winter performances are scheduled at Malcolm Guishard Recreational Park for Sept. 26, Oct. 24, Nov. 21 and Dec. 18, although dates and locations are subject to change.
