Norwegian Cruise Lines has announced that it will build two new
Freestyle Cruise ships for delivery in 2007. The first ship, being
built at the Meyer Werft shipyards in Papenburg, Germany, is
identical to the Norwegian Jewel, presently under construction at
Meyer Werft for August 2005 delivery. The new ship will feature
2,384 lower berths, 10 restaurants, an exclusive section of Garden
Villas and Courtyard Villas at the top of the ship, as well as 540
staterooms and suites with private balconies. Meyer Werft is
currently building two other ships for the NCL America brand in
Hawaii: the Pride of America, set for June 2005 delivery, and the
Pride of Hawaii, set for April 2006.
The other new ship announced by NCL will be built by Aker
Finnyards in Helsinki, Finland. The ship’s new design will
incorporate many of the features presently found in NCL’s fleet of
Freestyle Cruising ships. The Aker Finnyards newbuild will have
2,430 berths, and over 840 staterooms and suites. Every outside
stateroom on the ship will have its own private balcony.
