Agents with clients traveling to Beijing, China for the 2008
Summer Olympics should consider recommending a cruise along the
scenic, temple-lined Yangtze River with Victoria Cruises. Space is
expected to fill rapidly during this busy period.
“The 2008 Olympics is the most anticipated large-scale event
ever to come to China, and while the games are the major draw, many
visitors will wish to extend their travels with the addition of a
pre- or post-Olympics cruise or tour,” said Larry Greenman, manager
of customer service and public relations for Victoria Cruises.
“A relaxing Yangtze cruise through the scenic Three Gorges and
other culturally-rich regions in China’s heartland will provide an
ideal complement to the excitement of the Olympics in Beijing,”
noted Greenman.
With the largest fleet of five-star vessels on the Yangtze
River, Victoria Cruises offers several itineraries including the
popular Three Gorges Highlights, which sails downstream from
Chongqing to Yichang and includes a magnificent view of the Three
Gorges and the impressive Three Gorges Dam project, as well as an
excursion down one of the Yangtze’s tributary rivers
The four-day/three-night Chongqing to Yichang sailing departs
daily except for Saturdays and starts at $675 per person, based on
double occupancy in a standard cabin during July and August 2008,
$720 per person, double, in September.
Victoria Cruises’ Three Gorges Highlights program is also
available for upstream sailings, which depart every day except for
Tuesdays, but takes one extra day due to river currents. The
five-day/four-night Yichang to Chongqing upstream journey is priced
the same as the downstream sailing.
For those seeking a longer sailing, Victoria Cruises offers an
eight-day/seven-night roundtrip Chongqing-Yichang-Chongqing
journey, known as the Three Gorges Explorer, which includes
different shore excursions in each direction. The Three Gorges
Explorer departs daily except for Saturdays and starts at $1,200
per person, based on double occupancy in a standard cabin during
July and August, $1,300 per person, double, in September.
As an alternative, Victoria Cruises’ Grand Yangtze Discovery
encompasses the magnificent Three Gorges area as well as the
intriguing, historic and scenic sites along the Eastern part of the
Yangtze River. Journeying between Chongqing and Shanghai, this
itinerary offers a window into the soul and spirit of China and its
people, with highlights including a Qing Dynasty-style Bazaar
surrounding a Confucian Temple located at Nanjing, capital of
Jiangsu Province. Other shore excursions include Wuhan, capital of
Hubei Province, and Huangshan, one of China’s fabled mountain
ranges. The seven-day/six-night downstream Grand Yangtze Discovery
offers summer 2008 departures on July 9 and 23; Aug. 6 and 20; and
Sept. 3 and 17, and is priced from $1,400 per person, based on
double occupancy in a standard cabin during July and August, $1,500
per person, double, in September. The nine-day/eight-night upstream
Grand Yangtze Discovery is priced the same as the downstream
sailing, and has departures on July 1, 15 and 29; Aug. 12 and 26;
and Sept. 9 and 23.
