Paul Gauguin Cruises has expanded its fleet with the 90-guest Tere Moana. The news comes at an opportune time — after the line received a number of awards for its Paul Gauguin ship, including second place for small-ship cruise lines in Travel + Leisure’s World’s Best Awards and placement among the Top 20 Small Cruise Ships by readers of Conde Nast Traveler.
Tere Moana is the former Le Levant operated by Compagnie du Ponant. The ship underwent an extensive renovation before joining the Gauguin fleet at the end of December. Its addition allows Paul Gauguin Cruises to extend operations into Europe, the Caribbean and Latin America, keeping the same Polynesian ambience that characterizes the Gauguin.
With a staff of 60 and two gourmet dining venues featuring fresh ingredients from local markets, the Tere Moana offers 45 oceanview staterooms, eight with private balconies, king-size beds, flat-screen televisions, iPod docking stations and stocked refrigerators.
The ship’s Deep Nature Spa by Algotherm delivers signature spa treatments, and a fitness center is equipped with the latest cardio and weight-lifting equipment. The outdoor deck has a swimming pool and a hot tub, and clients can enjoy kayaking or paddleboarding from the ship.
Moana will sail 13 itineraries in 2013, and the line is offering 50 percent discounts on all sailings through March 31, with discounted fares starting at $4,995. Through February, the ship is sailing 13- and 14-night Panama Canal cruises; moving to varied seven-night European cruises from April through November.
