Cunard Line, whose 175 years at sea have seen industry firsts from private bathrooms to electric lighting, is regenerating next year with a major refurbishment of the 11-year-old Queen Mary 2.
Some of the changes, which will take place May 27 to June 21, 2016, are expansion of the ship’s signature features, such as 10 additional pet kennels, which are generally booked solid. Some additions will bring new features that reflect the changing market, including 15 single staterooms and 30 additional Britannia Club Balcony Staterooms, built to meet the demand for those who want flexibility in dining.
Public areas will be polished and refocused, and according to Richard Meadows, president of Cunard North America, more announcements will be forthcoming. Meanwhile, the additional accommodations have gone on sale for sailings from late June 2016.
Clearly, Cunard’s ability to walk the line between its history and the changing demands of travelers is crucial to see the line through its next century. The company’s constant refocusing of its product is an important reason why the Cunard’s charisma has continued through the decades.
