Silversea Cruises — which has recently been concentrating on increasing offerings among its smaller luxury expedition vessels — has announced that a new flagship will be delivered in the spring of 2017. The 596-passenger Silver Muse will be built by Italian shipbuilding company Fincantieri.
The announcement continues the wave of fleet expansion in the luxury sector, which was nearly dormant for many years. The diversity and vitality of luxury cruising, along with variation in size and focus, has now powered vigorous growth — and the new vessels are breathtaking. With incoming ships from Crystal Cruises, Regent Seven Seas Cruises, Seabourn Cruise Line and Viking Ocean, luxury customers have a great deal to anticipate.
“We have always had a special relationship with Fincantieri, since my father ordered the first cruise vessels for Sitmar Cruises in 1987,” said Manfredi Lefebvre D’Ovidio, chairman of Silversea. “Both companies have a clear understanding of what today’s affluent traveler seeks, and each approaches the market with originality, creativity and quality. The management team led by Giuseppe Bono has been exceptional in managing Silversea’s project.”
Silversea’s all-suite newbuild is described as an evolution of the Silver Spirit and will expand the fleet to nine ships.
According to Enzo Visone, Silversea’s CEO, the ship would contribute to the company’s ambitious growth plans, but additional details will come at a later date.
