Known for navigating some of the most difficult maritime
environments along the Norwegian coast, Norwegian Coastal Voyage
has also become a dominant figure in Expedition Cruising. A new
32-page brochure details the company’s offerings for 2007, which
include cruises through the icebergs of Greenland, the glaciers of
Spitsbergen and the desolate harbors of Antarctica.
The line’s new deluxe expedition ship, the 318-berth MS Fram is
built for cruising the iceberg laden waters around Greenland. The
Fram’s season begins in May with a 15-day expedition package from
Iceland’s Reykjavik to the eastern and southern Greenland
coasts.
The Fram will also take adventurers on 13-day expeditions in
Antarctica, beginning with an overnight in bustling Buenos Aires.
The Antarctica cruises feature a series of exclusive pre and
post-trip options, including tours to Iguazu Falls, San Pedro de
Atacama, Easter Island and Lima/ Machu Picchu. A 19-day voyage,
“Antarctica, Argentina & the Chilean Fjords,” includes a day in
Puerto Natales and Santiago and more time to enjoy the fjords and
glaciers of the Southern Andes along the Strait of Magellan and
Beagle Channel; the 21-day “Falklands, South Georgia and
Antarctica”cruise includes the isolated South Georgia and Falklands
Islands, breeding grounds for millions of seabirds and home to King
and other species of penguins.
In Spitsbergen, with no roads linking communities, a small-ship
cruise under the Midnight Sun on the 114-passenger MS Nordstjernen
or the 100-passenger MS Polar Star is ideal for viewing Arctic
landscapes with cliff-lined fjords, massive glaciers, rugged
mountains and abundant wildlife.
All of Norwegian Coastal Voyage’s Expedition Cruises include
roundtrip flights from New York, accommodations at first-class or
deluxe hotels with breakfast, services of naturalist guides, and in
many cases expert lecturers, specified walking tours and
