Uniworld, the Los Angeles-based river cruise specialist, is adding
two new vessels to its fleet next year.
The 138-passenger River Countess and River Duchess are sisters
to the River Empress, which entered service this year. They are
under construction at Den Breejen shipyard in
Hardinxveld-Giessendam, the Netherlands.
The additions bring to 13 the number of Uniworld ships marketed
to North Americans.
“With these new ships, we have created the most modern and
youngest fleet in Europe,” said Denise Seomin, vice president of
public relations for Uniworld. “River cruising is really starting
to catch the attention of well-traveled Americans.”
The River Countess is scheduled to enter service on March 23
with seven-night Tulip Time cruises through the Netherlands. During
the summer, the vessel will mark the company’s return to the Black
Sea with seven-night cruises from Budapest, among other
itineraries.
The River Duchess will make its debut on June 8 with Danube
sailings between Budapest and Nuremberg.
