Silversea will debut its first-ever hotel in October 2026. The luxury cruise line is opening The Cormorant at 55 South in Puerto Williams, Chile, to support its Antarctica Fly-Cruise program. The 150-room property, named after a seabird and the destination’s latitude, will operate seasonally from October through March every year.
“The Cormorant at 55 South represents an exciting new chapter for Silversea, extending our commitment to luxury travel to Antarctica,” said Bert Hernandez, president of Silversea. “This unique property will offer our guests the same hallmark comfort and personalized service they expect while onboard our ships, and will immerse them in the rich culture, traditions and natural beauty of the region. The interior spaces are thoughtfully designed to reflect the spirit of this extraordinary destination.”
Silversea’s Fly-Cruise itineraries are designed to bypass the notoriously rough Drake Passage. The journey begins with a hotel stay in Santiago, Chile, followed by a direct charter flight to Puerto Williams. Travelers will spend one night at The Cormorant prior to flying to King George Island, Antarctica, to embark on their cruise. After sailing and disembarking, guests will return for another overnight stay at The Cormorant before flying back to Santiago.
Private Amenities
Guestrooms will accommodate Silversea guests before and after Antarctica sailings with forest or water views overlooking the Beagle Channel. Interior design will celebrate regional culture, featuring earthy elements, wood accents and handcrafted items by local Chilean artisans.

The panoramic vistas will continue throughout the entire Patagonian property, “foster[ing] relaxation, reflection and discovery” from one venue to the next, according to the brand.
At the core of it all will be The Fireplace Lounge, said to take inspiration from the region’s reverence for the flame as a symbol of gathering, hospitality and storytelling. The lounge will radiate from its signature fire pit, with plush seating and a selection of fine wines and signature cocktails.
Libations will spill over to Bar Sur, where angular steel beams will outline another social gathering space for even more curated wines and spirits by night, along with teas and small bites during the day. Available activities here will include Patagonia wine tastings and a cocktail masterclass focused on Chilean Pisco, a fragrant and high-proof grape brandy.

The venue will highlight regional traditions and ingredients, with chef-inspired dishes and family-style gatherings in the evening, complete with storytelling inspired by the journey.
The hotel’s boutique, Uncharted, will sell everything from Chilean souvenirs to expedition essentials.
