Swiss International Air Lines takes
travelers to Switzerland in style.
The first carrier providing all business-class jet service between
the U.S. and Switzerland, Swiss International Air Lines (SWISS),
flies six times a week (except Saturday) from Newark to Zurich.
SWISS flight LX18 departs Newark at 9:45 p.m. and arrives in Zurich
at 11:30 a.m. the next morning, while the return flight departs
Zurich at 4:45 p.m. and arrives in Newark at 8:15 p.m. SWISS
partners with business aviation specialist PrivatAir, a
Geneva-based company that specializes in executive jet aviation and
operates business jet aircraft in cooperation with other European
airlines, such as Lufthansa and KLM. Flights out of Newark are
aboard an extended-range, specially configured Boeing 737-800
business jet certified for long-haul flights with additional fuel
capacity and a range of 4,000 nautical miles. The jet’s spacious
interior is outfitted with 56 identical “cradle” seats with a
60-inch pitch and 75-degree recline. When fully extended, the seats
provide ample room for even the tallest passengers (over six feet)
to stretch out into a comfortable sleeping position. Other
amenities include short boarding and deboarding times, quality food
and beverage service that matches what is available in business
class on all international SWISS flights, plus a selection of DVD
movies viewed on a portable player provided to each passenger.
In addition to the Newark route, SWISS provides nonstop service
from several major U.S. gateways to Zurich, including New York,
Boston, Chicago, Miami and Los Angeles. There are two daily flights
(except Sunday when there is one flight) from New York (JFK) to
Zurich, as well as daily service from JFK to Geneva. There is also
daily service to Zurich out of Boston Logan, Chicago O’Hare and
Miami International Airport and five flights weekly (except Tuesday
and Sunday) from LAX. All flights are aboard Airbus A330-200
aircraft, except flights out of Los Angeles that use an Airbus
A340-300.
The newest and 17th member of the Star Alliance network, SWISS
was officially welcomed into the Alliance at a gala ceremony at
Zurich Airport last April. As a result, SWISS passengers can now
enjoy the benefits of all member carriers, including exclusive
