Disney California Adventure’s Corn Dog Castle is a crowd-pleaser, to be sure, but sometimes a lengthy wait for Mater’s Junkyard Jamboree or Radiator Springs Racers calls for a more substantial — and stylish — meal break.
When this is the case, head toward Carthay Circle Restaurant, and don’t let its formality steer you away.
Inspired by old Hollywood picture halls — specifically Carthay Circle Theater, where “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” premiered in 1937 — the interior of the multilevel restaurant and lounge is grand and gilded. Sparkling chandeliers shine overhead, and vintage photographs along the walls give guests a glimpse into Walt Disney Studios’ history.
It’s still a perfectly suitable dining destination for little ones, though. Princess coloring pages are presented as swiftly as the Pimm’s punches or martinis for parents. And while mom and dad dine on the likes of ceviche or seasonal salads, the kids can order bowls of soba-noodle beef soup or orecchiette pasta. Signature fried biscuits stuffed with cheese, bacon and jalapeno are a hit with all ages, too. Make an advance reservation for an upstairs table, or pop in for a quick bite in the downstairs lounge.
