Hawaii's most reliable return guests — humpback whales — are heading back to the islands once again this winter and, in response, Atlantis Cruises has announced the introduction of a new breakfast whale watch excursion.
Available from Jan. 14 to March 31, 2011, the two-hour trip takes place aboard the high-tech 140-foot Navatek I. Thanks to its sleek design and state-of-the-art Small Waterplane Area Twin Hull (SWATH ) technology, this attractive vessel promises passengers a comfortable and stable ride.
The Navatek I glides past Waikiki, Diamond Head and the east Oahu shoreline in search of humpbacks, who return each winter in order to mate and give birth in Hawaii's warm waters. Clients have two options for whale-sighting opportunities: they can gather on the ship's outdoor viewing decks or look through large windows from indoor air-conditioned cabins.
Along the way, an expert naturalist shares insightful information and educational commentary on the behavior and biology of the gentle marine mammals. As an extra perk, if the naturalist doesn't sight a whale during the cruise, guests get a free return whale watch cruise.
Along with dazzling views and whale sightings, Atlantis' new breakfast cruise comes with pastries and muffins, bagels with cream cheese, assorted cold cereal, yogurt, fresh fruit, juice, coffee and tea.
Rates for the Whale Watch Breakfast Cruise are $49 per adult and $25 per child, including transportation from select Waikiki hotels. Thirty minutes before departure, passengers check in at Pier 6, located at Aloha Tower Marketplace in downtown Honolulu.
Atlantis is also continuing to offer its Whale Watch Lunch Cruise, which departs at noon beginning Dec. 21. On Oahu, the company also presents sunset dinner cruises on the Navatek I; submarine tours aboard the 64-passenger Atlantis XIV, the world's largest passenger submarine; and submarine and dinner cruise combinations.
