Hawaii Island’s seaside Kailua Village has added new events and activities to attract visitors in 2014.
Each Tuesday now brings a 5k fun run and walk. Starting at 5 p.m. at Big Island Running Company, the free footrace invites all ages to take part in healthy camaraderie.
In addition, the historic town has been added to the world's list of geocache locations. Using a GPS-enabled device, participants navigate through sites along oceanfront Alii Drive searching for a geocache of historic and cultural treasures.
A community picnic, a May Day bayside brunch and a July 4th family concert, luau and boat parade are also debuting in Kailua this year.
Meanwhile, Kailua Village continues to host the monthly Kokua Kailua event. One Sunday each month, Alii Drive transforms into a pedestrian-only walkway for dining and shopping fun from 1-6 p.m. See Kailua Village’s website for exact dates.
