New Oahu Restaurants

Aug 02, 2014

New eateries are stealing the show in Oahu’s ever-evolving dining scene. At the top of the Waikiki Shopping Center awaits Buho Cocina y Cantina, with innovative Mexican cuisine and gorgeous views of Waikiki. Guests arrive courtesy of a sidewalk elevator from Kalakaua Avenue.

Cutting-edge pizzas prevail at Sheraton Waikiki’s new Hapas, where 95 percent of the ingredients are locally sourced. Its distinctive pies range from the Pizza Reuben with sauerkraut to a sweet dessert pizza with cinnamon apples and brie cheese. A pasta station lets diners select their own sauce and fillings. On Kapahulu Avenue, flanking Waikiki, the aptly named Ethiopian Restaurant — Oahu’s first — serves traditional stews, stir-fries and flatbreads crafted by an Addis Ababa native. The humble yet high-quality enterprise shares space with a ramen restaurant.
