Outrigger Helps Host APEC

In the second week of November, Waikiki will be bustling with an international presence of government and business leaders, senior officials, foreign ministers and delegates, along with an expected 2,500 global media representatives. The occasion is the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Leaders’ Meeting, and it’s giving Hawaii a chance to show off its hospitality expertise.

That in mind, Outrigger Enterprises Group — Hawaii’s largest, locally-owned leisure lodging and hospitality company, boasting a growing presence in the Asia-Pacific region – has taken a proactive step by creating a new page on its website aimed specifically at APEC attendees.

As a hub for company data, the new web page offers easy-to-access fact sheets with detailed background on Outrigger Enterprises Group. It presents executive profiles that explain the leadership behind Outrigger as well as a history and timeline of the hospitality company, which built its first hotel — the 50-room Islander in Waikiki — in 1947.

Other features of the new web tool include development information on Outrigger’s established and budding Asia-Pacific projects; links to information about the company’s hotels and resorts; and suggestions for vacation packages, activities and live entertainment.

“As a company with roots in Hawaii and branches growing in six APEC economies, Outrigger is especially invested in ensuring that we showcase the best of Hawaii to the rest of the world,” said David Carey, president and chief executive officer of Outrigger Enterprises Group. “Outrigger understands that APEC attendees will want to explore the islands; it’s our objective to extend a helping hand to those attending this premier event by making this experience of a lifetime a unique and comfortable one.”

Outrigger is playing a significant role in the APEC 2011 conference, both in hosting thousands of attendees at its 13 owned, operated and affiliated properties on Oahu, as well as helping to train thousands of APEC volunteers. Outrigger worked alongside the Native Hawaiian Hospitality Association and Kapiolani Community College to share its expertise in hospitality and develop the curriculum to train APEC volunteers, as well as members of the workforce, including airport and transportation staff.
