Wholesalers Expand Resort Participation

Nov 04, 2004
Agents can expect more special programs and promotions from a host of wholesalers this season. United Vacations and Pleasant Holidays top the list of operators leading the way for Hawaii-bound travel.

United Vacations, which is operated by Milwaukee-based The Mark Travel Corporation, has introduced a new “responsible travel” program for visitors to Hawaii’s Big Island. Offered in conjunction with Outrigger Hotels and Resorts and The Kohala Center, a nonprofit institute for teaching and research related to environmental, botanical and ocean studies, the program is called “Born of Fire: Landscapes of Hawaii - Where Culture, Community, and Science Meet.”

“Responsible travel is a way for visitors to directly enhance the life and health of island communities while learning more about the culture and habitat they are working to preserve,” explained Rick Karnes, Vice President and General Manager for United Vacations. “This program offers travelers the opportunity to explore new areas while protecting these natural works for future generations. We are pleased to be able to participate with one of our key destinations in this new and unique way.”

Set to launch in December, “Born of Fire” will allow travelers to expand their understanding of Hawaiian science and culture by learning from local scientists and cultural experts. Additionally, travelers will have the opportunity to work alongside these experts to preserve and enhance the natural environments.

Priced per person and based on double occupancy, land-only vacations begin at $1,339 and include six-night accommodations at the OHANA Keauhou Beach Resort, the four-day educational program, hotel taxes, OHANA’S Big Kahuna Vacation Values, daily breakfast for two and a complimentary room upgrade. The promotion is valid Dec. 1 - 21, and airfare can be added from any United Airlines origin.

Thanks to Pleasant Holidays, Maui is an even greater value this season. The Westlake Village, California-based wholesaler has partnered with Maui’s Kapalua Villas to offer guests two free-night vacation packages for travel through Dec. 19, in fairway view accommodations.

A four-night, land-only holiday starts at $408 per person, while a five-night, land-only holiday starts at $625 per person - reflecting savings of $222 and $266 per couple, respectively.

Pleasant and the Sheraton Maui have also combined to offer Pleasant’s guests substantial savings through the “SunPlus3 Promotion.” The plan features reduced rates for select categories, the fifth night free, daily breakfast for two, and a triple, guaranteed upgrade. Through Dec. 19, five-night, land-only holidays start at $981 per person, reflecting a savings of $1,096 per couple.

With both Pleasant packages, prices are based on double occupancy and include accommodations, fresh flower lei greeting, daily Dollar Rent A Car, plus all hotel and car rental taxes. Extra room nights and nationwide airfares - including up to 50% off first class - are also available.

Pleasant passengers departing from Los Angeles and San Francisco to Maui can take advantage of a special “50-Percent Off Sale” through Dec. 4, featuring 50% discounts on companion airfares. The offer is available when two people travel on the same itinerary, and is valid only on air-and-land travel packages that include roundtrip airfare on Pleasant’s non-stop ATA Airlines service.

Also through Dec. 4, all Pleasant Holidays customers will receive a complimentary upgrade on select categories when reserving a Dollar Rent A Car as part of a travel package to Hawaii. During the same period, Hawaii-bound customers can enjoy the company’s special “2-for-1 ValuPak.” With up to $500 in savings, the ValuPak provides two-for-one admissions to some of Hawaii’s most popular attractions.
