'One Wedding' at Four Seasons

Feb 05, 2004
Four Seasons Resort Maui has always attracted couples planning to marry in a Hawaii ceremony. With the white sands of Wailea Beach as a backdrop, the resort has been the setting for numerous exotic Hawaiian weddings.

Yet, what sets the Four Seasons apart these days is its philosophy that only one wedding is performed at the property each day. According to its wedding coordinators, this approach ensures that every wedding party receives the full attention of the Resort’s wedding planners, as well as all of the contributing elements to a couple’s dream wedding from photographers and florists to pastry chefs and banquet staff.

“The One Wedding Per Day concept was driven by bridal couples,” noted Barbara Lewis, a wedding coordinator at the Four Seasons. “One of the first questions we were always asked was about the number of weddings planned for their day.”

According to Lewis “couples were usually a bit embarrassed and felt a little guilty for wanting to be the only wedding couple of the property. But our philosophy makes it quite acceptable to say it’s their wedding day and they want it to be all about them.”

The fact that most couples and their guests fly in for their wedding helps make the Four Seasons exclusive wedding idea viable.

“The relaxed, festive atmosphere of the resort turns every day into Sunday,” explained Mark Simon, director of marketing at the property.

“We’ve accommodated close to 200 wedding parties over the last year even with our exclusive point of view,” Simon said. “In many locales, a policy like ours would mean fewer than 100 weddings annually because everyone would want to be married on a Saturday or Sunday. But day of the week becomes irrelevant when you come to Maui to get married. We make every day feel like a holiday.”

Simon noted that in addition to not having to share the limelight with other bridal parties, couples appreciate the exclusive attention they receive from the resort’s wedding coordinators. The staff is available to assist couples with every step of the wedding planning process, from ceremony to reception.

Four Seasons Resort Maui features over 36,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor space to accommodate intimate to large weddings. Couples preferring a small Hawaiian wedding can book the Pilohana (bond of love) Wedding Package, including marriage license, officiant for the ceremony, floral arrangement, flower petals to scatter down the aisle, traditional French bouquet or Hawaiian lei, soloist musician, photographer and more.

In addition, the bride and groom will enjoy a three-night stay with dinner for two, Couple’s Deluxe Spa Treatment, resort amenity and Hawaiian wedding certificate created by a local artist.

“The Pilohana Wedding Package is $6,500, and you’d be surprised at how popular it is,” Simon added. “There are many couples that appreciate our exclusive approach and are more than happy to invest a little extra in the biggest day of their lives.”

Resort wedding packages range from $4,500 to $45,000.
