One of Hawaii’s most celebrated spas now pampers its guests on
an even grander scale. Anara Spa at the Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort
& Spa has celebrated the reopening of its award-winning spa
complex with new signature therapies and thatched roof treatment
hale (bungalows).
With its long awaited expansion and renovation completed late
last year, the 45,000-square-foot facility is the largest spa on
Kauai and second largest in the state of Hawaii. To the soothing
sounds of waterfalls, singing birds and breezes blowing through
trees, spa guests can meander along winding stone pathways to
explore the new garden area and five open-air treatment hale. Named
after a traditional healing plant that is both growing in the
garden and used in the treatments, each hale features its own
exclusive lava rock shower and steam grotto.
Of the five new hale, two are designed specifically for couple’s
treatments. An open-air Vichy treatment room for soothing
hydrotherapy was also added, along with two lava rock botanical
baths, a relaxation room, and an open-air hale for fitness classes,
yoga and personal training.
Each opening to its own private garden, existing treatment rooms
were completely renovated and now include native koa wood
cabinetry. Open around the clock, the well-appointed fitness center
was expanded by 900 square feet to accommodate additional cardio
and strength equipment.
According to Jessica Shea, spa director, the Grand Hyatt wanted
to set a new standard in resort spas. “The new garden spa area
showcases the lush, natural beauty found on Kauai,” she said. “The
proximity to nature causes an immediate calming of the spirit,
allowing guests to connect more deeply with the benefits of their
treatment. The spa area is an oasis within the resort.”
Among Anara Spa’s most popular new Signature Escapes therapies
is the Organic Lilikoi Lemongrass treatment. The refreshing
indulgence begins with a coconut foot bath and a deluxe scalp
massage using a deep conditioning avocado-coconut cream hair mask,
followed by a body polish with Kauai salts infused with organic
lilikoi (passion fruit) and lemongrass. After a rinse in a lava
rock shower, a luscious massage with rich mango butter drenches the
body in moisture.
“Ancient Hawaiians combined nature and healing practices to
achieve lokahi, or life in balance,” said Shea. “Provided in a
natural setting, each of our new Signature Escapes uses traditional
healing methods to release the mind, heal the body and enlighten
the spirit balancing the entire being in a state of harmony”.
The firm of Wimberly Allison Tong & Goo (WATG), the original
architect for the Grand Hyatt Kauai, was tapped to oversee the spa
expansion project. Having designed many of the world’s most
successful destination resorts and spas, WATG is known for creating
environments that reflect their locale. From offices around the
world, the 60-year-old firm has completed landmark hospitality
projects in 150 countries and territories.
“The spa renovation and expansion truly sets the bar high for
future spas,” said Shea. “Without sacrificing luxury, Anara Spa
creates a naturally elegant environment for spa-goers to relax and
unwind. It’s a beautiful weaving of architecture and nature.”
Overlooking Poipu's majestic Keoneloa Bay, Grand Hyatt Kauai
Resort & Spa offers 602 spacious guest rooms with private
lanais. Set on 50 oceanfront acres, the resort features lush
gardens with manicured lawns, seven restaurants, six lounges, a
water playground with river pool, a saltwater lagoon, tennis, the
award-winning ANARA Spa, and golf at the adjacent Poipu Bay
Resort.
