Dead Sea Resort Spas

Apr 11, 2008
Jordan Valley Marriott Resort & Spa
A massage at the Jordan Valley
Marriott Resort & Spa
For centuries, people have traveled to the Dead Sea, the lowest place on earth, to enjoy its beauty as well as its legendary healing properties. Many come here for relief from chronic ailments such as dermatological problems, asthma, arthritis, circulatory issues and hypertension. The composition of the Dead Sea contains high levels of magnesium, calcium, sodium and potassium making it rich in life-enhancing minerals. Today, thousands of people from all over the world come to the Dead Sea to rejuvenate, recover, relax and enjoy its natural benefits.

A number of luxury resorts and spas dot the Dead Sea region, which attracts Americans who wish to get pampered with the world-famous Dead Sea mud. For spa aficionados, it doesn’t get much better than this.

Kempinski Hotel Ishtar Dead Sea
The Kempinski Hotel Ishtar Dead Sea will open the largest spa in the Middle East next month. The Anantara Spa at The Kempinski Hotel Ishtar Dead Sea will be over 32,000 square feet in size and will adopt the theme of astronomy. The spa will have 20 treatment rooms; a large studio where guests can learn and practice the art of yoga, tai chi, meditation and Pilates; 28 spa suites; a Moroccan hammam (with traditional Moroccan treatment); an outdoor and indoor Jacuzzi; steam rooms; Ayurveda treatments; natural Dead Sea water pool; Asian therapies; and local salt and mud treatments. The spa will also boast a private Watsu pool. Watsu is a combination of water and Shiatsu, a soothing massage that takes place in waist-deep water. The spa will also have a hydrotherapy pool with bubble seats and wall jets. A lap pool that features star-sky fiber-optic lighting will be surrounded by heated beds for relaxation and meditation.

Ozone-rich air, mineral-loaded seawater and mud will enhance the quintessentially luxurious treatments of Anantara Spa. All treatments are performed by highly trained Far Eastern therapists.

In harmony with the dramatic, impressive and daunting landscape of the Dead Sea, the resort’s Zara Spa was inspired by one of the many desert castles in Jordan, the Castle Amra, constructed in the Ummayad Empire in the 8th century.

The architecture of the close-to-nature spa building makes it unique in Jordan and the 20,000-square-foot building will pamper even the most seasoned spa aficionado. With its 24 treatment rooms and five indoor and outdoor pools with different salt concentrations the Zara Spa is a true oasis of relaxation. The inside of the spa has extracted influences from various traditions throughout history of Islamic art and architecture. All through the spa you will find hints of what you find in Moroccan or Damascene hammams with animal mosaics and wave-like motifs. The indoor pool areas induce a feeling of tranquility and calm. Throughout the spa are shaded courtyards and mashrabiyya (wooden partitions) to control the daylight in the spa.

The therapy center offers programs specially designed for patients suffering from skin disorders (psoriasis, acne, etc.), asthma and cardiovascular or joint problems. The two physicians based at the center use the unique natural resources of the Dead Sea: warm and dry climate, year-round ultraviolet-filtered sunshine, mineral-loaded seawater and bromine- and ozone-rich air.
