Hanalei Colony Resort, a small, intimate beach resort on Kauai’s
North Shore, now offers guests a variety of wellness activities
designed to enhance their relaxation and capitalize on the healing
aspects of the natural surroundings. Set between a secluded beach
and a backdrop of towering mountains in Haena, Kauai’s remote
northernmost town, Hanalei Colony has long prided itself on its
restful atmosphere. Described as unspoiled and unplugged, the
5-acre property has become a favorite hideaway for couples,
families and small groups.
Units do not have televisions, stereos or phones, a strategy
designed to help guests relax and enjoy the surrounding area.
Taking the approach a step further, the resort recently introduced
a variety of wellness activities that include yoga sessions,
therapeutic massage services and com-plimentary wellness
classes.
The activities are under the direction of Darci Frankel, a North
Shore resident with extensive experience in the healing arts.
Frankel has been practicing yoga for 28 years and has taught yoga
for 12 years. A Licensed Massage Therapist, she is also certified
in Ayurveda, the ancient sci-ence of health and healing from
India.
Resort guests can enjoy mas-sage therapy in-room, in a private
treatment studio adjacent to the property or on the beach fronting
Hanalei Colony in a beachside massage hale (hut). Available by
appointment, massages cost $80 for 60 minutes or $120 for 90
minutes.
According to Laura Beemer, Hanalei Colony general manager,
future plans call for the opening of a small massage center on the
resort property with an expanded menu of therapeutic massage
services. In addition, the resort will expand its offering of
wellness activities to include morning walks, exercise classes and
other programs.
“Kauai’s North Shore is legendary for its healing properties,”
noted Beemer. “There is nothing tame or polished about this area of
the island. Instead, it’s lush and wild. There’s something here
that touches your soul. We want our guests to feel that.”
Hanalei Colony welcomes small groups and offers a beachfront
meeting and banquet facility for groups, weddings and special
events up to 150 people. The resort extends discounted group rates
for bookings of three or more units.
