Hotel Pulitzer Buenos Aires Debuts

Jul 25, 2011

Buenos Aires, Argentina’s boutique hotel scene is getting supersized with the new Hotel Pulitzer Buenos Aires. Unlike the five- to 10-room hotels clustered in the Porteno neighborhoods, such as Palermo and Recoleta, the 13-floor Pulitzer brings an intimate feel to its 104 rooms, well placed in the heart of the city center.

After opening in March in a newly constructed building with a refreshingly cosmopolitan design, the Pulitzer represents a step forward for the Microcentro district. Owned by Spanish company Grupo Regina Hoteles, the new Buenos Aires hotel builds on the success of the company’s other popular, contemporary-chic Hotel Pulitzers in Barcelona and Paris. Designed by Lázaro Rosa-Violán of Contemporain Studio in Barcelona, the Buenos Aires branch takes cues from its European sisters in its warmth and sophistication, all the while asserting its Argentinean style with avant garde art and sculptural chandeliers. Dark blue, black and white interiors are inspired by 1950’s American design, and guestrooms — some with Parisian-style balconies fit for Evita — are outfitted with leather furnishings and black mosaic tile bathrooms.

Notably, the hotel represents a major step forward for the city’s Microcentro district, previously known more as a business hub than a trendy hot spot. Located just off the Plaza San Martin, the Pulitzer is within walking distance to several modes of public transportation and must-see attractions such as the pedestrian shopping area Calle Florida, the historic Casa Rosada, the chic Recoleta and the bohemian San Telmo neighborhoods. And for those that want an exclusive dining experience within close proximity to the hotel, the young and friendly staff at Pulitzer excels at arranging last-minute reservations at the trendy eateries in Palermo Soho.

However, the Pulitzer creates a refuge from the surrounding hustle and bustle with a stylish and understated vibe of its own. Travelers can sip martinis at the chic lobby-level Visit Cocktail Bar, relax al fresco at the open-air 13th floor Visit Sky Bar with sweeping views of the city, start the day in the sunny breakfast room or order snacks from the Visit Easy Food menu serving fusion dishes. An 8th-floor pool deck is set to open this summer.

Business travelers can settle in with a laptop on one of the crisp monochromatic couches, organize a meeting in a private room outfitted with contemporary art or sit in a club chair and flip through the hotel’s collection of inspiring design books, including it’s own “Not Just a Notebook,” a unique in-house guide that gives readers the scoop on the best bars, restaurants, sights and secrets in a city that certainly never rests.
