Guests of Kapalua Bay Hotel’s Bay Club restaurant will experience
something special that’s not on the menu. Best of all, this feast
for the eyes is now available to go. Under Kapalua’s new Art in
Paradise program, various works of art by prominent Maui artists
are featured in the hotel’s restaurants, public areas and
guestrooms. Visitors who just can’t take their eyes off a painting
during dinner or grow attached to the art in their hotel room may
now purchase the pieces to take home.
Currently featured in The Bay Club are nine original paintings
and giclee reproductions by Suzy Papanikolas, a Maui artist known
for her vibrant images of Pacific Island people. Works by other
Maui artists are being installed in the hotel’s Gardeni a Court
restaurant, lobby area and selected guestrooms. The Art in Paradise
program is a collaboration between Kapalua Bay Hotel and Design
Network, an Upcountry Maui company that provides the artwork.
“We’ve been considering this idea for quite some time,” said Jon
Gersonde, Kapalua Bay Hotel General Manager. “It’s a great way to
introduce our guests to Maui’s talented artists, and it provides
guests with a unique option for an authentic memory of aloha they
can take home with them. To make the program work, we just needed
someone with a good connection to local artists.”
The hotel found that connection in Kari McCarthy, head of Design
Network, a longtime supporter of Maui arts. Kristine Hoffman, who
also works with Design Network, is the Art in Paradise program’s
art consultant and is available by appointment to advise the
hotel’s guests on their art purchases.
Situated on 18 beachfront acres in Maui’s Kapalua golf resort
community, Kapalua Bay Hotel is managed by Starwood Hotels &
Resorts Worldwide, Inc. as part of The Luxury Collection.
