Riviera Nayarit, a relatively new resort destination on Mexico’s Pacific Coast, is demonstrating impressive growth. According to the Riviera Nayarit Convention & Visitors Bureau, the destination presently has 20,000 rooms, the majority of which are of the bungalow variety. By 2013, an additional 5,000 rooms will be available. Hotel companies with construction projects underway include Capella Hotels & Resorts, The Ritz-Carlton, Iberostar Hotels & Resorts (with three resorts), Grupo Mayan and Hyatt (with two properties).

This year, Imanta Resorts opened in September in Punta Mita, with three other major vacation real estate developments poised to open by the end of 2009. Imanta Resorts is a 250-acre resort composed of luxury villas, or casas. Each casa has three to six suites. Most of these have plunge pools or custom Jacuzzis, while Oceanfront Suites have a private beach. Three of the resort’s casas will be managed as a five-star boutique hotel.

La Tranquila will open in Litibu in the fall of 2010. When completed, La Tranquila’s 169 private residences will also be part of a rental pool for visitors. There will be four types of accommodation ranging from Residence Serena Studios to the three-room, three-bath Residence Brisa suites. Guest amenities include the full-service La Tranquila Spa Club, gourmet dining and pre-arrival provisioning of accommodations.

Marival Residences & World Spa in Nuevo Vallarta on Bahia de Banderas is scheduled to open in December. The resort will have 171 fully equipped luxury suites ranging in size from one to four bedrooms. The resort will have a private beach club, a restaurant specializing in global cuisine, a wine bar and a sky bar. Marival Residences & World Spa will offer an all-inclusive package that includes meals, gourmet specialties, national and premium brand drinks and all the services of the Marival Resort & Suites.

The 400-unit Taheima Wellness Resort & Spa in Nuevo Vallarta has hinted at a 2009 opening, although a firm date has yet to be finalized. The resort will be operated as a Deluxe Collection member of Worldhotels and will feature two gourmet restaurants, a full spa and wellness center. The resort’s luxury two-bedroom condo suites will be equipped with state-of-the-art information technology and complete kitchen and dining facilities. Guests will also have privileges at the Paradise Village Golf and Country Club.
