Titilaka Lodge Charms Visitors

Nov 29, 2011

Exploring the Peruvian highlands, would not be complete without a visit to Lake Titicaca, and one of the best places to stay while there is at the Titilaka Lodge. Located on a private peninsula on the shores of the lake, the property features 18 unique rooms.

Titilaka’s contemporary design is distinctly Peruvian and offers the comforts of home while maintaining an eco-friendly atmosphere. Included in the services at the lodge are excursions, gourmet meals featuring Peruvian-fusion cuisine, a nightly happy hour and, soon, spa services.

Guestrooms

No two rooms at the hotel are alike and all have a view of Lake Titicaca. Each one features heated floors, Pima cotton bed linens, a fully stocked, complimentary minibar, iPod docking stations, a personal safe, centralized lighting, complimentary Wi-Fi, a coffee table, a desk and more. Suites have free-standing bathtubs and some have oversize showers.

Taking advantage of its location on the shores of Lake Titicaca, rooms have large picture windows in both the bedroom as well as the bathroom. My favorite spot to curl up was on the long chaise lounge that stretched from one end of my window to the other.

Entertainment

On the lobby level, evening activities include a nightly happy hour serving cocktails, beer, wine and Peru’s traditional drink, the pisco sour.

In the dining room, floor-to-ceiling windows provide stunning vistas of the lake. The atmosphere is casual, yet eclectic, and the food is a mix of Peruvian dishes and traditional Western-style dishes. An alternating menu features alpaca and trout from Lake Titicaca as well as ravioli and risotto. Dining is included in the room rate and meals are a three- or four-course affair. Non-alcoholic beverages are included with meals, but wine, beer and other cocktails are extra.

Adjacent to the dining room is one of the hotel’s three lounges. Here, guests can boot up their laptops on a comfy, over-stuffed couch or play a hand of cards or backgammon.

Guests can also relax outside or take a stroll along the beach, located adjacent to the property.

To the tech-savvy, the hotel features a media room where guests can watch satellite television, play video games or watch a DVD. There are also a variety of board games to choose from and books to borrow. It’s a good idea to note to clients that there are no televisions in the guestrooms.

Excursions

Excursions, offered through the hotel and included in a guest’s stay, include the Isla Flotantes, or floating islands, and the island of Taquile. Both offer an immersion into two cultures literally untouched by modern life. Clients can also explore the various architectural sites in the area, and the lodge has its own boat for flexible transportation.
