Oct 06, 2022

Travelers considering a Cayman Islands vacation will soon have a lot more choices when it comes to accommodations, as a variety of new hotels are slated to open on Grand Cayman.

Each of the new resorts is positioned to appeal to different types of vacationers, making it even easier for travel advisors to match sun-seeking clients with a rewarding experience.

Dive enthusiasts, for example, can find new possibilities at Ocean Cabanas, a boutique dive resort that opened earlier this year on Grand Cayman. The property features seven cabanas, each of which is themed after a sea creature. Accommodations range in size from one to three bedrooms and feature kitchens, living rooms and washer/dryers. Ocean Cabanas offers packages that include accommodations, transportation and multiple boat dives — with diving excursions appropriate for adults, kids and small groups.

New Hotels in the Cayman Islands for 2023

Next year will bring even more new hotel options to Grand Cayman. Opening in June 2023 is Vida Ocean Adventure Lodge, which is located on Conch Point Road near the entrance to Barker’s National Park.

Healthy adventure is a focus for this property, which is headed by Jhon Mora, the owner of Kitesurf Cayman. Guests can benefit from Mora’s own sporting expertise when they join one of his kite-surfing excursions, or they can opt for other activities such as paddleboarding, snorkeling, cycling, fishing, scuba diving, horseback riding or yoga on the dedicated yoga deck. The property will also have a gym and 18 apartment-style accommodations that range from a 736-square-foot studio to a 2,104-square-foot three-bedroom apartment.

Luxury and wellness seekers, meanwhile, may want to consider reserving a room at Kailani, A Curio Collection by Hilton Hotel. Slated to open in November 2023, the property is located in George Town, with a stylish vibe spearheaded by Florida-based hospitality interior design firm Marzipan.

The 80 guestrooms, which range in size from studios to three-bedroom suites, will feature digital key entry and amenities such as yoga mats and a beverage bar. Guests can sign up for wellness programs at the spa and enjoy healthful culinary options at the on-site restaurant, poolside bar, grab-and-go station and juice bar — all of which will use produce from the hotel’s 60-acre farm, which is also located on Grand Cayman.

Wellness is also the focus of Revive Destination Spa and Healing Resort, which will feature 28 bungalows and an extensive menu of activities and programs, including yoga classes, spa treatments, lectures, meditation sessions, life coaching and reflexology, to name a few. An opening date has yet to be announced.

Coming Soon on Grand Cayman

The hospitality industry will continue its growth trajectory on Grand Cayman for at least a few more years. Scheduled to open in 2024 is Hotel Indigo Grand Cayman, a 282-room beachfront property with multiple restaurants, a pool deck and a rooftop bar.

And the island’s luxury hotel scene will get a massive boost in 2025, thanks to the debut of two new properties with high-profile branding. Mandarin Oriental Grand Cayman, located on the coast of St. James Point in Bodden Town, will have 100 hotel rooms and 89 residences on a 67-acre resort.

The property will feature multiple swimming pools, a swimming cove and beach that measures more than 700 feet. The spa will offer a meditation pavilion, Zen pathways, serenity gardens and private treatment villas. Food and beverage options will include the Ocean Grill, specializing in locally sourced seafood; The Restaurant, a signature restaurant with an exhibition kitchen, chef’s dining counter and wood-fired pizza oven; and two bars. The kids’ club will include an interactive playroom and adjacent activities park.

Meanwhile, the 351-room Grand Hyatt Grand Cayman Residences — also slated for a 2025 debut — will have six food and beverage venues, some 9,000 square feet of spa and fitness space, three swimming pools, beach cabanas, a screening room, 13,000 square feet of indoor meeting space and a Camp Hyatt kids’ club.

Also scheduled for a 2025 opening is the 177-unit One/GT, a boutique hotel that will feature a cafe, a signature restaurant and luxury rooftop venue Sky Club. Accommodations will range from 528-square-foot one-bedroom units to 3,490-square-foot four-bedroom apartments.

With so many noteworthy new properties in the works, it may be a good idea to start planning that next trip to the Cayman Islands now.
