Live Aqua, a luxury hotel brand with properties in Cancun, Riviera Maya and Punta Cana, recently celebrated the grand opening of Devossion by Live Aqua on Feb. 14. The adults-only, all-inclusive resort in Playa del Carmen is the first for Devossion, a newly created lifestyle extension within the Live Aqua portfolio.

Part of Mexican hotel operator Posadas, Live Aqua celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2025 and is ushering in a new chapter of luxury hospitality with the launch of Devossion.

With 314 rooms and suites, the hotel features multiple pools overlooking the beach, a spa area, a speakeasy, several restaurants with diverse culinary offerings and bars serving a variety of cocktails and mocktails.

Celebration Meets Luxury

Devossion is inspired by post-pandemic traveler behavior that emphasizes what executives describe as “celebrations of love” and “celebrations of life.”

“We have to walk away from the traditional full-service luxury hotel,” said Jose Jaime Lorenzo Doria, chief commercial officer of hotel business at Posadas. “We don't want to be a flat concept. After the pandemic, people were finally able to travel again, and they wanted to celebrate everything.”

The hotel aims to balance wellness and revelry, with programming that shifts throughout the day — from calm morning yoga sessions and spa treatments to upbeat afternoon gatherings and themed evening events.

Guests can also participate in interactive mixology classes, cooking sessions, “Guac-Off” competitions, boozy popsicle carts, surprise culinary pop-ups and comedy shows.

An Adults-Only Focus

The adults-only positioning is key to Devossion’s mission.

Enrique Calderon, vice president of operations at Posadas, said it would be difficult to balance elevated, adult-focused programming within a multigenerational setting. While sister brands within the portfolio cater to families, Devossion was designed specifically for couples, friend groups, corporate retreats and solo travelers seeking a socially driven environment.

The Playa del Carmen location itself supports the concept, offering a vibrant downtown scene with the popular Fifth Avenue (La Quinta Avenida), a pedestrian walkway that features nearby shops, restaurants and nightclubs.

Traditional Live Aqua properties focus primarily on relaxation. By contrast, Devossion introduces a more social setting without sacrificing the luxury feel.

“It can be very calm and relaxing in the morning, and upbeat during the day,” Calderon said.

A New MICE Experience

Devossion also introduces a new approach to meetings and incentive travel.

With adult-only MICE programming, companies can incorporate team-building mixology sessions, private speakeasy-style dinners and create genuine connections in corporate gatherings.

Next Stops for Devossion

Following its debut in Playa del Carmen, the brand is targeting destinations in “cool spots in cool places,” including the Dominican Republic, Isla Mujeres and potentially Los Cabos, all while maintaining the same celebratory energy.

"This isn't just about luxury,” Calderon said. “It's about joy, connection and celebrating life together.”
