The small, artsy community of Todos Santos in Baja California Sur has set a date for its twelfth annual art and cultural festival. From Jan. 31 through Feb. 7, the Todos Santos Art Festival will showcase the work of local artisans, while bringing together folk dancing, music and theater performances to the town’s streets.
The opening weekend of the festival will feature drawing and art displays in the city’s main plaza and an exhibition and sale of regional crafts in the parking lot of the well-known boutique hotel, Hotel California. Clients can also expect a day of music — classical guitar, Latin American, chamber and orchestral — on Feb. 1.
Also during the festival, children in third through sixth grade can participate in a Reading Encouragement Workshop, and avid readers of all ages might want to browse the book fair taking place in the main plaza. The rest of the itinerary includes live music, dance workshops, poetry readings, film screenings, Mexican folk dancing and guests speakers, who will lead talks on various subjects such as the history of Baja and turtle conservation.
Primarily a government-funded event, the Todos Santos Art Festival is organized by local groups and individuals from the community in celebration of Mexico’s rich culture.
Todos Santos is approximately a one-hour drive from Los Cabos and La Paz.
