Ensemble Agents Meet at New Resort

More than 60 Ensemble Travel Group members from the West Coast attended a regional retreat held at the new Terranea Resort in Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif., last month. The training and networking event was facilitated and hosted by Ensemble Travel Group board members Susan Tanzman, Annette Weber and Bob Romano and business development director Pamela Irwin.

Representatives from Classic Vacations and Holland America Line were also in attendance, giving presentations on their products and establishing a dialogue with agents. Other highlights were discussions held by board members on embracing communication and technology, increasing profitability and utilizing marketing tools.



New Globus CEO

After serving five years as president and CEO of the Globus Family of Brands, Phillip Gordon is taking on a new role as chairman. Scott Nisbet, who has served as the senior vice president and chief operation officer since 2004, will assume the position of president and CEO.

“Phillip has led the Globus Family of Brands into exciting, uncharted territory in the last five years,” said Nisbet. “I’m eager to move his mission forward as [president and] CEO, working with our business development team to continue to evolve the tour experience and our destination portfolio while building more specialty vacations and experiences through Avalon Waterways, Monograms and our faith-based products.”

According to the 80-year-old tour company, Nisbet will guide Globus, Cosmos, Avalon Waterways and Monograms into the next decade.



Travel Hall of Leaders Named

Adam Goldstein and Andrew Taylor have been named 2009 inductees of the U.S. Travel Hall of Leaders, which is maintained by the U.S. Travel Association. The inductees will be formally honored during a dinner among more than 100 travel industry leaders during the U.S. Travel winter board meeting in Irving, Texas, on Dec. 3.

Goldstein is the president and CEO of Royal Caribbean International and was national chair of the U.S. Travel Association in 2001 and chair of the USA Marketing Council from 1998 to 2000.

As the chairman and CEO of Enterprise Rent-A-Car, Taylor has long been active on the industry’s behalf and has served on the World Travel and Tourism Council as well as the U.S. Travel and Tourism Advisory Board, which offers guidance to the Secretary of Commerce on industry issues.



El Al Appointment

Israel’s national airline, El Al, appointed Liora Avrahami to the position of West Coast regional manager. In her new position, Avrahami is responsible for leading all El Al sales and marketing activities related to the five weekly nonstop El Al flights between Los Angeles and Israel, which is the only nonstop service on this route.

Avrahami has worked for El Al for about 24 years, and has served as business account manager and unit sales manager at the El Al Israel branch in Tel Aviv.
