When we first decided on a cover story about India, we wanted it
to be special. Not only is the country experiencing a renaissance,
especially when it comes to travel, but when you look at the
tagline on our cover each issue Exploring Travel Favorites and
Frontiers no destination fits that description better than
India.
To help this issue stand out, we called upon Mark Edward Harris.
Mark is a veteran photojournalist whose work has appeared in
Vogue, People, The New York Times and numerous other
publications. As an award-winning photographer, he is also the
author of three books of travel photography. Moreover, luckily for
us, Mark always wanted to visit India, as you’ll learn in his
story, “India In Style” (page 14).
And for the first time, we can offer readers another way to
“see” this must-see destination. Right now on our Web site only
(www.travelagewest.com), we have posted a slide show of Mark’s
black-and-white photographs from his trip (just click on “Current
Issue”). These are in addition to the shots that accompany the
print story and will provide an even greater insight into this
exciting land.
Mark’s story is not the only one in this issue that “explores
the frontiers of travel.” In fact, we consistently send writers
into the field to bring back eyewitness accounts. We also have
Maribeth Mellin diving in the shark tank at the Maui Ocean Center;
Jad Davenport sea kayaking with gray whales in Baja; Susan James
soaking up the spas of the Black Forest; Norman Sklarewitz aboard
the first-ever cruise ship to Libya; Allison Rost on the streets of
Cairo; Maryann Hammers exploring a Mayan village in the Yucatan;
and more.
Not bad for a single issue. Hopefully, you’ll think so too.
