Abercrombie & Kent (A&K) has developed four new special-interest European River Cruise Journeys for 2016.
“Based on the success of this year’s World War II on the Rhine itinerary, we developed four new themed journeys that appeal to a broad range of interests,” said Phil Otterson, president of A&K USA.
A&K has reserved prime accommodations on the Amadeus luxury cruise fleet, including full, walk-out balconies or French balconies. All itineraries will be personally overseen by a resident tour director with decades of experience and knowledge of the destination. Sightseeing, led by expert local guides, will be limited to 24 guests in private vehicles and include two or more exclusive A&K Connections excursions.
These experiences, available only to A&K guests onboard the cruises, include activities such as a private waltz lesson in Vienna; a private tour of Bratislava, Slovakia, including a visit to the Blue Church; and lunch with a local family on their farm in Provence, France.
The new Connections cruises for 2016 include:
- Food & Wine of France: Paris, Burgundy & Provence, an 11-day cruise on the Saone and Rhone rivers, after pre-cruise stays in Paris and Beaune. Guests lunch at the foot of the Pont du Gard aqueduct; take a tasting tour and cooking class in the Les Halles de Lyon Paul Bocuse markets; enjoy private tastings at top wineries in Burgundy; and tour Senanque Abbey, Saint-Paul de Mausole and the Roman amphitheater in Arles.
- Art & Architecture Along the Rhine, an 11-day cruise onboard the new Amadeus Silver III. The itinerary includes an architectural tour of Vitra Design Museum Campus in Basel, Switzerland; a Connections-exclusive tasting tour in the Alsace wine region in France; an exclusive excursion to Darmstadt, Germany, with a guided visit to artist colony Mathildenhohe; and an exclusive excursion to Cologne, including a stop at Museum Ludwig, known for its collection of classical, modern, expressionist and American pop art.
- Christmas Markets on the Rhine, an eight-day cruise. Guests visit markets in Germany and France, as well as enjoy a pre-cruise night in Basel and a post-cruise night in Cologne. Activities include an exclusive visit to Lalique Museum in northeast France, which features art-deco and art-nouveau glasswork.
- Christmas Along the Rhine, a nine-day itinerary. Passengers can explore Christmas Markets in Strasbourg, France, and Cologne; take a Connections-exclusive chocolate-making workshop; and visit Speyer, Germany, with the opportunity to attend Christmas Eve mass at its cathedral.
