AmaWaterways has announced details of its upcoming theme cruises, scheduled to sail in the late summer and fall of 2011 on select Vineyards of the Rhine and Mosel, The Romantic Danube, Enchanting Rhine and Europe’s Rivers and Castles itineraries.
With October and November departures timed to coincide with harvest time in Europe, the cruises will showcase Europe’s wine regions along the Rhine, Mosel and Danube Rivers, with complimentary lectures from hosts, including James Beard Foundation Award–winner Anthony Dias Blue; British wine critic, journalist and television personality Jilly Goolden; a representative from the Ferrari-Carano Vineyards and Winery in Sonoma, Calif., and winemakers from the St. Francis Winery and Vineyards in Santa Rosa, Calif., and Trinchero Napa Valley.
Passengers will also enjoy excursions including a Medieval Wine Fest in the German town of Zell on the Mosel River, a traditional Heuriger tasting of new wine in the villages of Grinzing and Neustift, Austria, on the outskirts of Vienna, a tour and tasting at the historic Bergweiler Winery in Bernkastel, Germany, an introduction to Alsatian wines at the Wunsch et Mann winery in Wettolsheim, France, and a candlelit evening and wine tasting at the cellar of the famous Residenz in Wurzburg, Germany, all complimentary and open to all passengers.
AmaWaterways will also offer three Jewish Heritage cruises on select Blue Danube Discovery, Legendary Danube and Romantic Danube itineraries in August and November. Complimentary highlights include the second-largest synagogue in the world, the Dohany Street Synagogue in Budapest, along with the Jewish Museum, Temple of Heroes and cemetery at the Synagogue complex. In Bratislava, Slovakia, the tour includes a visit to the tomb of the famous rabbi, Chatam Sofer, and in Vienna a visit to the Jewish Museum, Judenplatz and Old Synagogue, Sigmund Freud House (outside), Jewish Cemetery and Jewish Quarter. The Oscar Schindler house is a highlight of the tour in Regensburg and passengers can visit Court Room 600 at the Nuremberg Palace of Justice, scene of the Nuremberg Trials from 1945-1949.
