AmaWaterways Dramatically Increases Group Space on Mekong, Announces Wine Cruises

Sep 13, 2011

AmaWaterways has more than doubled its available group space on its Mekong river cruises with the launch of its second ship, the 124-passenger AmaLotus. The new ship joins the 92-passenger LaMarguerite and offers seven-night cruises from Siem Reap, Cambodia, to Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.

“We are now in a much better position to fulfill requests for group space on this spectacular itinerary,” said Kristin Karst, executive vice president and co-owner. “It’s the perfect choice for agents looking for an exciting, exotic experience for their well-traveled groups.”

The cruise line is offering one free tour conductor berth for every nine, full-paying passengers. A group discount is also available, but agents should contact Ama as soon as possible in order to hold space.

AmaWaterways is also offering In Celebration of Wine cruises this October and November, showcasing wines of both the Old World and New World. Depending on the itinerary, guests have the opportunity to sample wines from well-known California wineries, including Trinchero Napa Valley, Farrari-Carano Vineyards and Winery in Sonoma, Rodney Strong Vineyards and St. Francis Winery and Vineyards in Santa Rosa.

The complimentary wine tastings are in addition to customized shore excursions, onboard lectures, wine pairings, beer tastings and other special events. Special excursions include a Medieval Wine Fest in the town of Zell, Germany, located on the Mosel River; a traditional Heuriger tasting of new wine in the villages of Grinzing and Neustift, Austria, on the outskirts of Vienna; a tour and tasting at the historic Bergweiler Winery in Bernkastel-Kues, Germany; an introduction to Alsatian wines at the Wunsch et Mann winery in Wettolsheim, France; and a candlelit evening and wine tasting at the Hofkeller, or cellar of the famous Residenz in Wurzburg, Germany. In addition, celebrity wine hosts including food and wine expert Anthony Dias Blue, and winemakers from several vineyards will lead onboard discussions and tastings.

The In Celebration of Wine Cruises include the Oct. 14 and Nov. 13 departures of Vineyards of the Rhine and Mosel; the Nov. 6 Europe’s Rivers and Castles cruise; the Nov. 12 Enchanting Rhine itinerary; and the Nov. 14 and 21 departures of The Romantic Danube.
