As American Cruise Lines adds new ships to its fleet, it is repositioning its 3-year-old, 150-passenger Queen of the Mississippi to the Pacific Northwest, where it will be renamed and join Queen of the West to operate on the Columbia and Snake rivers. (As of press time, a new name had not been announced.)
This is a substantial move for the region, effectively doubling its capacity in the Pacific Northwest. Queen of the Mississippi has large staterooms, private balconies, seven lounges and single seating in the dining room. The company’s new 185-passenger paddlewheeler, America, will replace Queen of the Mississippi on its current itineraries in early 2016.
The company, which owns the shipyard in which its vessels are built, launched American Eagle last year and will add an additional paddlewheeler in 2017, bringing the fleet’s total number of ships to nine. American Cruise Lines’ river vessels and small cruise ships sail more than 35 itineraries on the Mississippi and in Alaska, New England, the Southeast and the Pacific Northwest.
