Avalon Waterways has announced that, next year, with the addition of three new Suite Ships, the cruise line will offer more 200- and 300-square-foot Panorama and Royal Suites than 172-square-foot staterooms in Europe.
With eight of its Suite Ships in operation on the Danube, Rhine and Main rivers in 2014, Avalon has created a video that agents can use to clearly show the design points for the newbuilds. These include the open-air balconies, which open seven feet in width and 11 feet high to turn the entire suite into a balcony regardless of the weather and without sacrificing interior living space. Avalon has used angled walls to provide a view from the bed and to give guests bathrooms with large tile showers with glass doors, marble countertops, premium fixtures, L’Occitane amenities and shelves under the vanity to house toiletries.
“Because river cruising is all about the ever-changing views, our windows are both big and a big deal,” said Patrick Clark, managing director. “And we take full advantage of them. For instance, we angled our beds to face out each oversized window so our guests can enjoy views passing by from the comfort of their beds. We’re the only cruise line that’s done that. And in making that change, we opened up our rooms to give our travelers more space in both their staterooms and bathrooms which, in turn, provides them a relaxing retreat.”
