Responding to popular demand, Cruise West is expanding its 2009 departures on the Columbia and Snake Rivers. Passengers save $125 per person when they book April 2009 cruises by Sept. 5. An additional $50 per person is saved when payment is received in full by Sept. 5.
On deck, guests retrace nearly 1,000 miles of Lewis and Clark’s famous route, sailing seven nights roundtrip from Portland, Ore. Exploration leaders and interpreters are onboard each cruise down the winding Snake River through scenic Hells Canyon, where ancient Nez Perce horse trails are still visible from the river. As the small ship approaches the mouth of the mighty Columbia, guests disembark to visit Fort Clatsop. Passing the heavy wooden gates, clients are literally following in the footsteps of Lewis and Clark, who sheltered here from the elements during the rainy winter of 1805. All cruises include an excursion in every port.
Another popular route — a Taste of the Pacific Northwest culinary cruise — is being offered on additional dates next year: April 5, 12, 19 and 26 on Oct. 11 and 18. It is priced from $3,299.
The River Voyage of Discovery cruise, priced from $2,149, also has additional sailings on April 3, 10, 17 and 24; May 1 and 8; Sept. 18, 19, 25 and 26; and Oct. 2, 3, 9, 10, 16 and 17.
Cruise West also has a Stowaway Program for travelers whose dates are flexible. Clients who sign up save 25 percent on cruise fares while making a deposit within a particular 30-day window. Cruise West will inform guests of Stowaway travel dates 30 days prior to departure.
