Details have been announced for Uniworld’s River Tosca, which will debut on the Nile in Egypt in April 2009. Uniworld president and CEO Guy Young said last summer that the company had seen100 percent growth in Egypt in 2008, and it has gone all out on the 80-passenger Tosca. The décor was designed by the team that works with the 11 luxury hotels of Red Carnation Hotels, a sister company to Uniworld.
Most of the Tosca’s 42 suites with French balconies are more than 300 square feet, and the presidential suites are more than 650 square feet with large terraces. The interiors were designed with wood paneling, large closets, flat-screen TVs, individual air conditioning, vanities and makeup mirrors and decorated with handcrafted Alhambra brass lanterns, original Egyptian artwork, and fine linen drapes. Floors will be heated and covered with crema marfil marble. There will be leather night tables, and the beds will be fitted with Egyptian cotton sheets and duvets. iPod docking stations will be available so guests can listen to their own music. In addition, guests will enjoy an elevator, laundry facilities and a 24-hour tea and coffee bar.
River Tosca offers a swimming pool lined with cabanas, a jucuzzi, a fitness center and massage services, and hairdresser; there is also a library and boutique. Complimentary wine, beer and soda will be served during dinner, and complimentary shore excursions will be hosted by English-speaking guides who using a Quietvox portable headset system. Wireless Internet access is provided on board.
Uniworld’s River Tosca will sail the 11-day Ancient Wonders of Egypt & the Nile and the 13-day Jewels of Egypt, the Nile, & Lake Nasser and Splendors of Egypt & the Nile itineraries in 2009. Uniworld is offering a $600 per couple discount on selected river cruises for those who pay in full by January 31 and a $300 discount for those who book and deposit by that date.
