Uniworld Boutique River Cruises will inaugurate its newest ship, the Queen Isabel, in Porto, Portugal, on March 22, launching a full season of cruises on the Douro.
Uniworld named the ship after one of Portugal’s most beloved queens from the late 13th and early 14th century, and she will be christened by one of Hollywood’s leading ladies, Andie MacDowell. MacDowell’s work includes the Academy Award nominated Four Weddings and a Funeral, Sex, Lies and Videotapes, and Groundhog Day. MacDowell has also been a top spokes model and the face of L'Oreal for more than 25 years.
The 118-passenger Queen Isabel has a variety of accommodations: two 323-square-foot suites, 18 215-square-foot junior suites, 23 Category 1 staterooms and 16 category 2 and 3 staterooms, all 161 square feet. Upper Deck riverview staterooms and suites have full balconies; the main deck accommodations have French balconies and the lower deck has panoramic windows. All staterooms and suites have hotel beds, built-in closets, a hair dryer, a safe, an individual thermostat, a flat-screen television, a radio, an alarm clock, an iPhone/iPod charger and player, and bottled water. Bathrooms have L'Occitane bath and body products, plush towels, waffle bathrobes and slippers The ship has a main lounge with a full-service bar, a restaurant, a sun deck with a swimming pool, a fitness center, a spa and boutique, a complimentary coffee and tea bar as well as free Wi-Fi access.
During 2013 and 2014, Queen Isabel sails the seven-night Portugal, Spain and the Douro River Valley itinerary.
