All agents who register on Viking River Cruises’ travel agent portal through May 31 will be automatically entered into a drawing for one of three staterooms on the new Viking Legend’s inaugural sailing. The trip begins on Thursday, July 2, in Cologne, France, and ends in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, on Sunday, July 5. The prize package includes free roundtrip airfare for two, a deluxe stateroom, meals and special excursions, as well as an invitation to the Viking Legend christening ceremony.
Viking Legend will debut on the Grand European Tour from Amsterdam to Budapest, Hungary. At 443-feet-long, the three-level Viking Legend will be the longest ship in the Viking fleet, and can accommodate up to 189 guests in 98 staterooms. The ship will be powered by an innovative propulsion system that is similar in some aspects to hybrid cars, allowing it to achieve an estimated 20 percent boost in fuel efficiency and a smoother, quieter ride by using four smaller propellers instead of two large propellers. Its two engine rooms will be insulated to further reduce noise and vibration. In addition, Viking Legend will have the latest security features, such as double hulls, multiple exits in all public areas and backup generators.
Besides its cutting-edge technology, Viking Legend’s guest amenities are also rather notable.
“Legend has some of the largest suites on Europe’s rivers,” said Joost Ouendag, vice president of product marketing. “The restaurant has cooking stations for made-to-order breakfast dishes. Most staterooms have French balconies, and all have Sony 26-inch flat-panel televisions, telephones, refrigerators, hair dryers and in-room safes. Public areas, such as restaurants and lounges are essentially glass-walled for panoramic views of passing scenery. And, like all of our Europe ships in 2009, Viking Legend will have free wireless Internet access ship-wide.”
The newbuild will also have two suites measuring 310 square feet each. Suites will have complimentary room service available during all mealtimes. Public spaces include a cozy library, sun deck with 360-degree panoramic views, a souvenir shop and an observation lounge.
