Brendan Explores Northeastern Europe

Jul 18, 2012

Brendan Vacations has released its final installment of its four-part tour series, Beyond the Expected: New Discoveries with Gems of Northeastern Europe. Open for 2012/2013 bookings, the 14-day Best of Russia, the Baltics & Warsaw itinerary will take clients to the Czech Republic, Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia and Russia.

“This extraordinary part of the world is home to some of the greatest historical and architectural treasures in the world. From UNESCO World Heritage sites such as Red Square to the famous Hermitage Museum to Castles and Cathedrals, this awe-inspiring vacation will be one you will never forget,” said president Nico Zenner. “Brendan Vacations has the experience and the connections in this part of the world to deliver a truly ‘beyond the expected’ journey.”

In Russia, guests will visit Red Square, the Kremlin, Armory Museum and Tver, which is located on the beautiful banks of the Volga between Moscow and St. Petersburg. In nearby Novgorod, guests will visit its churches and monasteries, getting a taste of Russia as it used to be hundreds of years ago.

Tallinn, the capital of Estonia, is one of Eastern Europe’s most captivating cities. Clients will visit its medieval Old Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The origins of Tallinn date back to the 13th century, when the crusading knights of the Teutonic Order chose to build a castle here. On a walking tour of Tallinn, clients visit the Russian Orthodox Alexander Nevsky Cathedral and Toompea Castle.

In Riga, the capital of Latvia, guests will have an opportunity to admire its medieval architecture and extravagant collection of Art Nouveau buildings. The Riga Cathedral, the largest place of worship in the Baltics, features an organ with 6,768 pipes. Franz Liszt composed a piece for its dedication in 1884.

Next, clients pay a visit to Vilnius, Lithuania, walking its narrow cobblestone streets and exploring baroque churches, museums, parks and outdoor markets. They will also spend time in Old Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with its mix of baroque, gothic, renaissance and classical architecture.

Warsaw, Poland, is known as Phoenix City because it has survived despite a turbulent past. Most notably, the city had to be painstakingly rebuilt after the extensive damage it suffered from World War II, during which 80 percent of its buildings were destroyed. Sightseeing in this historic city includes views of Castle Square, Lazienki Park and the Palace of Science and Culture.

Land only, the Best of Russia, the Baltics & Warsaw itinerary starts at $2,795.
