Boston Like a Local

After years of working in advertising, Boston resident Lauren Wells switched gears to launch her own design and styling company in 2013. That passion project is Lauren Wells Events, through which she specializes in events, marketing and creative direction for clients. Though Wells is often out of office and traveling for either work or play, the Massachusetts capital has remained her beloved home through it all. She shares her tips for exploring Boston.

From start to finish, an ideal food day is:
A bowl of muesli and a Stumptown cold brew coffee from Tatte Bakery for breakfast. Then for lunch, I would stop by the food trucks on The Greenway or have a more leisurely lunch of lemon herb chicken and cocktails at Trade. For dinner, I would enjoy pizza and ice cream from Picco, or tacos and ceviche from Loco Taqueria & Oyster Bar.

It’s the weekend, which means brunch. Where to?
I often grab a horchata iced coffee at The Painted Burro bar while waiting for a table at the adjacent Rosebud American Kitchen & Bar.

What about an afternoon pick-me-up?
Thinking Cup for a hazelnut latte or Loyal Nine for just about anything.

Care to share Boston’s best-kept secret?
The Lawn on D, an outdoor event space, is in its second season and is the first of its kind for the city. There’s a bar, food, concerts, swings, lawn games and other fun activities — all out in the open and under the sun.

Hottest hotel at the moment:
The Verb Hotel, located near Fenway Park, for an outdoor pool and midcentury vibes.

A neighborhood worth checking out is:
South Boston, which continues to see impressive growth with new and exciting businesses popping up regularly.

If you’ve done the tourist stuff and have time to spare:
Get out of the city. One of the great things about Boston is you can drive two hours in any direction and end up somewhere crazy beautiful and quintessentially New England, such as Cape Cod, Nantucket or The Berkshires.
