Washington's Red Mountain is consistently recognized as one of the world's most outstanding areas for growing red wine grapes, and a new annual event created by the Red Mountain American Viticultural Area (AVA) aims to celebrate that fact.
The inaugural Red Mountain AVA Block Party takes place on Sept. 29, 2012, from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Ticket holders will have an unprecedented opportunity to spend time with winemakers and vineyard owners from the Red Mountain region. Special trolley service will transport guests from winery to vineyard for activities ranging from exclusive vineyard tours, rare wine tastings, grape stomping, music and even a little golf.
“Our intention for the Block Party is to create stronger relationships among our winemakers, grape growers and guests that will educate and endure,” said Edward Shaw, owner of Portrait Cellars.
“In vineyard speak, a block is another term for a grouping of vines," Shaw added. "In neighborhood speak, a block is your neighborhood. We like to think of this event as creating a neighborhood of wine lovers and winemakers, grape growers and friends. We’re also hoping to have a lot of fun (at the party), which is right in the middle of the harvest here.”
Tickets will permit guests to speak directly to winemakers, vineyard owners and growers, sample wines at participating wineries, enjoy vineyard walks, hikes and trolley trips from wineries, and gain an intimate education about the region.
Participating wineries and vineyards include Col Solare, Corvus Cellars, Cooper: A Red Mountain Winery, DeLille Cellars Doyenne/Upchurch Vineyard, Efeste Wine, Fidelitas Wines, Goedhart Family, Hedges Family Estate, Hightower Cellars, Kiona Vineyard and Winery, Montes Scarlotto Vineyard, Portrait Cellars, Tapteil Vineyard Winery, Terra Blanca Winery and Estate Vineyard and Upchurch Vineyard.
