A new organization, Wellness in Travel & Tourism (WITT), recently introduced the hospitality industry's first wellness certification program for hotels and resorts. The initiative aims to establish standards for wellness amenities and services in the growing wellness travel market.

WITT, led by CEO and Founder Robin Ruiz, has certified more than 100 properties to date, including luxury destinations like The Ranch at Malibu and AMAN New York, as well as mid-tier hotels such as Troutbeck in Scottsdale and AutoCamp Catskills.

The certification process involves a 100-point criteria system focusing on five core pillars: Healthy Eating, Holistic Healing, Nature, Movement and Local Impact. Ruiz described the certification as "the Michelin Guide for Wellness Travel."

According to WITT, the wellness travel market is projected to reach $1.3 trillion by 2025. The organization cites data indicating that wellness-designated hotels report a 20% higher Average Daily Rate (ADR) than non-wellness hotels.

"The WITT Certified seal provides hotels and resorts with a significant advantage in attracting travelers by offering objective and rigorous audits of their wellness amenities and services," Ruiz SAID.

WITT plans to launch a consumer-facing website allowing travelers to explore certified hotels, articles, and destination spotlights. The organization also offers consulting services and marketing support for properties looking to enhance their wellness offerings.

The Global Wellness Institute reports that wellness travelers in the U.S. spend 175% more than traditional travelers, highlighting potential revenue opportunities for certified properties.

WITT's team comprises industry experts with over 125 years of combined experience in hospitality, wellness and travel. The organization is headquartered in Tampa, Florida.
