On May 6, the Italian National Tourist Board hosted a virtual event for travel advisors and media focused on the outlook for luxury travel to Italy.
During a discussion of the latest news, Maria Elena Rossi, marketing and promotion director for the tourist board, expressed optimism that the country could open its doors to travelers in the coming weeks.
Peter Bates, president and founder of Strategic Vision, presented findings from a survey conducted in cooperation with various travel agencies, which revealed optimism for luxury travel this year, and pointed to domestic and European destinations as top of mind for affluent travelers. The event also included a panel discussion with guests including Jacqueline Gifford, editor-in-chief of Travel + Leisure; Robert Koren, senior vice president of Europe, Middle East & Africa for the luxury hotel brand Belmond; and others.
