Located between Sixth and Seventh avenues, this is a stately 44-story 1930s landmark which lords over Central Park from its southern perimeter. This is the kind of hotel that could kick-start vertigo.
Its original red-neon rooftop sign is one of New York's historical touchstones, as much a landmark as the Chrysler or Empire State buildings. Anyone who has ever stood in the Sheep Meadow and peered south will recognize this hotel in an instant.
