TravelAge West's Bruce Shulman to Retire, Anthony Carnevale Announced as New Publisher

Sep 06, 2019

Media veteran Bruce Shulman will be retiring on October 1 as Senior Vice President/Group Publisher of the Retail Travel Group, in one of several executive announcements made today by Northstar Travel Group.

Shulman’s portfolio includes TravelAge West, Travel Weekly, the Ultimate Hotel Guide, World of Luxury and Family Getaways. He has been in sales and publishing roles at Northstar since 2000, having moved to Travel Weekly 15 years ago from Northstar’s Hotel & Travel Index. Prior to his time in media sales, Shulman had a successful career in hospitality management. He will continue in a part-time strategic advisory role for Travel Weekly and TravelAge West to ensure a seamless transition.

“Bruce set the bar high for the brands he led, and his leadership has positioned both the teams and the titles he oversaw for continued growth and success,” said Robert Sullivan, President of Northstar’s Travel Group.

Taking his place as leader of the commercial side of the Retail Group will be Anthony Carnevale, currently Publisher of the BTN Group, which includes Business Travel News, Procurement and The Beat.  At the BTN Group, Carnevale distinguished himself by developing unique integrated marketing/communications programs and helped drive the success of digital products/platforms, events and marketing services.

“Anthony will be a terrific asset to the Retail Group. His experience, perspective, market knowledge and leadership make Anthony the perfect candidate for his new role as Senior VP/Group Publisher of the Retail Travel Group,” Sullivan said.

Succeeding Carnevale as Associate Publisher of BTN Group will be Lindsay Straub. Lindsay joined Northstar in a marketing role in 2013 and moved to a sales role in 2015, where her passion and drive helped the BTN Group achieve record setting revenues. She will assume her new role on October 1.

Jay Nelson will be promoted within the Retail Group to Vice President Business Development/ Strategic Accounts, effective October 1. A nine-year veteran of the group, he was initially in a business development role, following a successful sales career with Hotel & Travel Index. Nelson was promoted to Associate Publisher in 2015 and has had a stellar track record working with key accounts and developing sales talent. In his new role, Nelson will work closely with Carnevale in handling key account initiatives across both Travel Weekly and TravelAge West.
