As Weather Anxiety Grows, Sensible Weather Expands Internationally

Nobody wants to cancel their vacation, but nobody wants to spend a week watching rain streak down the window of their Amalfi Coast hotel, either.

To combat this tension point, weather protection provider Sensible Weather announced last month that it is expanding its "Weather Guarantee" product to hotels across Europe (including Spain, Italy, France, Switzerland and Austria) and the Caribbean, in partnership with Aven Hospitality.

Available as an add-on at checkout through hotels using the SynXis booking engine, the parametric Weather Guarantee provides automatic cash reimbursements through PayPal or bank transfer if weather conditions such as rain, high winds or extreme heat meet predetermined thresholds during a guest’s stay. Unlike traditional travel insurance, the product doesn’t require travelers to cancel their trip, file a claim or submit documentation.

According to Sensible Weather, the expansion comes as weather uncertainty plays an increasingly significant role in travel planning. The company’s 2026 Weather Uncertainty and the Modern Traveler Report surveyed 600 leisure travelers and found that 56% of travelers cite weather as a top booking concern, while 55% have delayed booking a vacation because of forecast uncertainty. Nearly 90% of respondents said they would feel more confident booking a trip if weather-related disruptions were automatically covered.

“As the cost of international flights and accommodations continues to rise, travelers are making massive financial investments into their vacations, and they want assurance that those investments are protected,” said Nick Cavanaugh, CEO and founder of Sensible Weather. “Expanding our footprint across Europe and the Caribbean allows us to protect these high-stakes, highly anticipated trips. We’re giving travelers the confidence to book their vacations knowing that if the weather doesn't cooperate, they will automatically be reimbursed to make the most of their time abroad.”

Participating hotels benefit through increased booking conversion rates, reduced weather-related cancellations and additional revenue opportunities. The company has sold more than 1 million Weather Guarantees across 8,000 locations since its founding in 2019.

“After going live with more than 1,000 properties across North America on day one, our expanded partnership with Sensible Weather underscores how quickly weather protection has evolved from a niche add‑on into a core driver of booking performance,” said Ethan Wiseman, vice president of product management for Aven Hospitality. “As we now extend this capability across Europe and the Caribbean, we’re seeing massive adoption as hoteliers unlock higher average order values, reduce cancellation rates and improve conversion."
