Australia Named Top International Destination by USTOA

Dec 17, 2017

What:
Participants in the United States Tour Operators Association (USTOA) Annual Member Survey named Australia; Spain; Iceland and Italy (tied); France; and Japan as the most popular international destinations for 2018. The top domestic destinations for 2018 are California; Florida and Hawaii (tied); New York; Alaska and Nevada (tied); and Washington, D.C. The top emerging destinations for next year are Iceland, Colombia and Vietnam.

Why It Matters:
Australia is on many travel wish lists, and clients may be ready to travel Down Under. It’s viewed as a safe destination and, because of prevalent terrorist attacks worldwide, safety is a top concern with clients today. Additionally, according to USTOA Executive Committee members, Tourism Australia is cutting-edge and digitally savvy.

Fast Facts:
- Iceland moved up from No. 2 most emerging destination in 2017 to No. 1 this year.

- The majority of active members (89 percent) participated in the annual survey.
