Concierge Corner: Adel Hmaza, Four Seasons Hotel Cario at Nile Plaza

Nov 06, 2010
There is no shortage of reasons to visit the 366-room Four Seasons Hotel Cairo at Nile Plaza, located in Cairo along the bank of the Nile River. The property boasts seven restaurants, serving locally sourced ingredients, including Asouan dates, Sayadeya sea bass and other delicacies from the Red Sea. More than 200 pieces of contemporary Egyptian art are on display throughout the hotel, and the Spa at Nile Plaza recently was recognized by Travel + Leisure’s World’s Best Awards for being the top spa in Africa and the Middle East. Adel Hamza — the director of concierge at the hotel, who has been with the Four Seasons Hotel Cairo at Nile Plaza for six years — shares his tips for guests who want to get the most out of their visit.

Many visitors to Cairo want to see the most popular tourist sites, such as the Great Pyramids and the Great Sphinx, but where else should they visit while in town?
They should definitely not miss Old Cairo, The Citadel, Islamic Cairo or the famous pyramids of Dahshur and the Step Pyramid of Sakkara. There are many great historical sites as well as cultural places to visit in Cairo — it really depends on the length of the guest’s stay.

For guests who want to bring home souvenirs, where do you send them?
Of course, there is Khan El-Khalili bazaar where there are lots of different Oriental items such as jewelry, clothing, bags and accessories. There are also many shops in the downtown area that sell Egyptian souvenirs. We can offer transportation anywhere the guest wishes to go in Cairo.

If a guest wants to eat a proper Egyptian meal, where do you suggest?  What should they order?
We strongly recommend the nearby Abou El Sid restaurant where guests can order fettah [Egyptian risotto] or the popular Egyptian dish Molokheya [Egyptian greens stew, served there with chicken, meatballs or rabbit and rice].

In what ways can the concierge team make a client’s stay unforgettable?
Enjoying the beautiful sunset on a felucca boat on the Nile while having a meal arranged through our room service team is an experience that guests should not miss. We can also arrange a Nile cruise with dinner, music and a belly dancing show. We try our best to provide and accommodate every request a guest wishes to ensure he/she has a pleasant stay with us.
