Q&A 1-1-2005

Jan 01, 2005

Outrigger Enterprises has begun work on Waikiki Beach Walk, transforming an aging, congested 7.9-acre area of Waikiki into a $460 million hotel-retail-entertainment hub.

Q: What should travel agents tell their clients about visiting Waikiki during this time?
A: Construction of Waikiki Beach Walk is contained within a small, specific area. Visitors may not even realize that it is taking place. Agents should not hesitate to send their clients to Waikiki at any time during the construction.

Q. What should visitors to Waikiki be prepared to see and hear during construction?
A. While some construction activity will be visible, Outrigger is taking steps to screen the area and mitigate noise and dust. Clients on the beach and throughout Waikiki really shouldn’t be affected at all.

Q: How will it affect pedestrian traffic?
A: There should be little or no impact to pedestrian traffic. Safe and accessible walkways are provided in the affected areas.

Q: How can agents and their clients stay up-to-speed on the project?
A: Outrigger has set up Web-cams showing the work as it takes place in real time. There, agents and clients can get the latest construction information and traffic advisories. Activity is updated and posted every three weeks.
