Q&A 4-1-2005

Apr 01, 2005

TrueGreece is a new and unique kind of Greek islands travel company offering three luxury vacations this summer. Trips depart May 2-Oct. 3. Itineraries include the islands of Paros, Patmos, Santorini and Spetses. All trips leave from Athens.

Q: Where and when did you get the idea to start TrueGreece?
A: I got the idea for TrueGreece when I was at Stanford doing my MBA. I grew up in Greece, my parents own a boutique hotel there and I would plan trips for my friends. I wanted my American friends to see the best my country had to offer. When I couldn’t find a company to present the favorite experiences I personally wanted others to share, I started TrueGreece.

Q: Is this your first year offering trips to Greece?
A: No, 2004 was our first year. This year we are organizing the same three trips as last year due to their success, but we are taking the company to a new level and working with travel agents.

Q: You do three main trips a year. Do you also offer private group trips?
A: Yes. We have two markets for private trips. One is small groups between maybe eight, 10 or 12 people. Clients can customize what they want to do. Our other market is for groups like couples on honeymoons. We work closely with agents to create a special package for them for the same commission. Agents can outsource to us for expert information.

Q: Do you have plans for more than three trips a year?
A: Yes. We plan to expand the line by two or three trips a year in the future.

Q: What size are the groups on your trips?
A: Groups are small, between 14 and 16 people.

Q: Do you divide your time between California and Greece?
A: We have two feet, one in each country. I am based in Greece but travel to the states two or three times a year. We also have an office in Redwood City, Calif. Technology has allowed us to operate efficiently from Greece.
